Take a breath — this is almost always completely normal, and your gel is safe.
Sea moss is a living, natural product. It doesn't behave like a lab-made gel with synthetic stabilizers, and that's exactly the point. Here's what's going on and what (if anything) to do about it.
My gel looks liquid or runny
This is the most common one — and totally expected.
Our gels contain no synthetic thickening agents. When the jar warms up during shipping (especially in summer or on a long journey), the gel naturally loosens.
The fix: Put the unopened jar in the fridge for 3–6 hours. It firms right back up to its smooth, scoopable texture. That's it.
💡 Already opened it? Same fix — just keep it refrigerated and give it a few hours to set.
My gel arrived warm
Also normal. Our jars are vacuum-sealed and shelf-stable — they don't need refrigeration during transit, and warmth doesn't affect safety or quality.
Once it arrives: refrigerate it, let it firm up, and you're good to go. → More on storage here
The color looks different from my last jar
Sea moss is wild-harvested from the ocean. Like fruit, no two harvests are exactly the same. Slight shifts in color are completely natural and don't affect quality.
Color can vary because of:
- Seasonal differences in the harvest
- The natural mineral content of the water it grew in
- The specific fruit blend in your flavor
A jar that's a little lighter or darker than last time? Still good.
What's the normal texture supposed to be?
When properly chilled, True Sea Moss Gel feels like applesauce or a smooth fruit purée — thick enough to scoop, soft enough to blend, never watery or chunky.
What about the smell?
A mild, fresh ocean scent is natural — it's seaweed, after all. Combined with real fruit, most flavors smell light and pleasant.
When should I actually reach out?
Most texture and color questions sort themselves out with a few hours in the fridge. But please contact us if you notice any of these:
- 🚫 A strong, sour, or off smell (not just the natural ocean scent)
- 🚫 Visible mold or fuzzy spots
- 🚫 The lid button was already pressed down before you opened it (possible broken seal)
- 🚫 Fizzing, bubbling, or a "popped" swollen lid
If you see any of the above, don't taste it — reach out and we'll sort it out right away.
💡 When in doubt, snap a quick photo and send it to us. We can check your batch and confirm everything's good.
